Smart analytics for preventing tailgating
AXIS Tailgating Detector helps overcome the fact that most automated access control systems at places such as membership clubs and gyms, do not control how many people at a time are allowed to enter the building. The application helps prevent unauthorized entry.
AXIS Tailgating Detector is designed to detect and notify if more than one person enters within a set time interval. Alarm notifications include email or an audio output. You can use it to prevent abuse of membership cards and employee cards, thus minimizing losses and the possibility of theft. It can also save you money by eliminating the need for security guards at entrances.
You can count on it
AXIS Tailgating Detector runs embedded in a ceiling-mounted network camera. It is an automated system that provides two-way counting in real time. The software is built on advanced and proven algorithms from Cognimatics, whose programs have led in retail analytics for more than a decade. Prevent losses and deter internal theft
While employee theft is a major component of retail shrinkage, it is globally an area in loss prevention that typically does not receive as much monitoring as customer theft. Research studies show, however, that the best strategy for retailers to reduce employee theft is to work systematically with internal staff inspections. Unbiased inspection by random selection can help reduce theft and fraud, and provide a safe workplace. It can also ensure a high level of staff integrity.
AXIS Random Selector software addresses this issue by randomly singling out individuals for inspection – for example, at exits or self-checkout counters. Use it to eliminate discrimination – or accusations of discrimination – when there’s a need to inspect items like shopping bags and backpacks. It can make what might otherwise be an uncomfortable situation less so. And it can help prevent threatening situations from developing.
You can count on it
AXIS Random Selector runs directly on a ceiling-mounted network camera. It detects in real-time when someone is leaving or entering the premises, and randomly determines if the person should be scheduled for inspection or not. Inspection can be triggered by an alarm, such as an audio output or blinking light.
The program comes with the AXIS People Counter functionality, which collects data such as how many people have entered or left, and at what times. It also provides data on the number of people chosen for inspection. All processing is done on the camera’s CPU so there is no need for a dedicated PC. AXIS Random Selector is built on advanced and proven algorithms from Cognimatics, whose programs have led in retail analytics for more than a decade. Offering high-speed execution and low memory requirements, the software has been installed in thousands of cameras worldwide.
Face detection for loss prevention
AXIS Face Detector is an easy to use face detection solution that detects faces in live video. It helps deter would-be thieves by giving the illusion that there’s advanced facial recognition running in the background.
Reduce theft. Increase ROI
Alerting potential shoplifters that they are being monitored helps you to proactively reduce shoplifting, crimes and employee theft in your stores and can potentially lead to higher ROI for your business. AXIS Face Detector helps deter would-be thieves by letting them know they are being monitored. It visually highlights the detected face as the image is displayed on a connected monitor. It also gives the illusion that there’s advanced facial recognition analytics running in the background, whereas this simple solution only detects the face – there’s no further analysis performed. This means no need to purchase expensive analytics or manage watchlists. This solution not only informs passers-by that they are being watched It also helps create a sense of security for both your customers and employees.
More bang for your buck
By limiting retail shrinkage, you can dramatically shorten payback periods and increase your profits. AXIS Face Detector gives you a proactive way to reduce theft and it also helps you to optimize your security resources. For instance, when installed at store entrances, it can significantly reduce the number of security guards needed in-store. This simple, cost-effective solution doesn’t require expensive analytics or time spent on managing watchlists. Plus, when no face is detected, in front of the camera, you can use the monitors as digital signage to display promotional advertising and programmed messages. Smooth installation
This highly scalable solution is 100% plug and play so it’s easy to use and install. It’s compatible with selected Axis smart cameras and all Video Management Software (VMS) systems. So you get seamless integration without the need to spend time configuring the software. If needed, it’s also possible to customize the colors and shapes of the bounding boxes to fit in with your individual brand and style. Thanks to edge analytics you get improved data processing time and a much more cost-effective and flexible system. Plus, with the inclusion of pre- and post-sales support, you can rely on Axis first-class customer service all the way.
Smart analytics for determining gender and age
AXIS Demographic Identifier determines the gender of your customers and their approximate age range by detecting and analyzing the faces of store visitors on a running basis. The result is information you can use to make targeted marketing and merchandising decisions.
AXIS Demographic Identifier lets you compare gender and age statistics across store locations and times of day. It allows you to target marketing efforts at the demographic segments likely to visit in certain areas and at certain times. You can use the application, for example, to automatically change, in real time, the advertisement on a digital display to better suit the gender and/or age group of the person in front of the screen. You can also use the application to evaluate the success of specific campaigns.
Demographic insights from AXIS Demographic Identifier helps you stock merchandise that appeals to the customers shopping at your stores. When integrated with your point of sale (PoS) system, you can see what kinds of items are of interest to different customer segments. You can use the information to decide, for instance, what to feature on certain days of the week or times of day. The results are likely to be higher sales and happier customers who find what they’re looking for – and return again and again. You can also use AXIS Demographic Identifier to tailor the in-store experience to demographic segments. Choose music, décor, and so on that your shoppers will find appealing and that encourages purchases.
AXIS Demographic Identifier does not store images or video, so the personal integrity of customers is never compromised. Only data is stored directly on each camera for up to 90 days or 20,000 face detections.
High-security, scalable perimeter protection
AXIS Perimeter Defender gives you an edge where security starts—at the perimeter of your facilities. The video analytics application, together with Axis network cameras, provides a highly effective system that automatically detects and responds to people and vehicles intruding on your property. It reinforces physical access controls, and is suitable for high-security sites such as chemical plants, power plants and prisons.
High reliability AXIS Perimeter Defender is designed to detect moving people and vehicles (up to 12 m or 39 ft. in length). It uses a three-dimensional representation of a scene to enable highly accurate detection. Because it can classify people and vehicles, you can select if you want to detect only people or vehicles, or both. AXIS Perimeter Defender minimizes false alarms in a number of ways. The application automatically learns—after at least a day’s installation—the difference between “day” and “night” and uses this information to fine-tune the algorithm for optimal performance. It automatically handles variable illumination and disregards motion that's not from humans or vehicles—such as swaying vegetation and fast-moving shadows on the ground. It can also mitigate false alarms from headlights. The application supports multiple detection scenarios simultaneously so you can tailor the setup to your needs. AXIS Perimeter Defender’s high detection accuracy and minimal false alarms, especially when combined with thermal network cameras, enable a system that is highly reliable.
Metadata overlay During configuration, AXIS Perimeter Defender automatically applies a metadata overlay in the form of bounding boxes and trajectories that show the detection and tracking of moving people and vehicles. You can then choose to apply a burnt-in metadata overlay in live and recorded video. This feature applies red boxes and trajectories for people, and blue boxes and trajectories for moving vehicles. This allows you to get visual confirmation of the objects being detected. This is particularly helpful when viewing thermal video.
Easy and efficient management AXIS Perimeter Defender’s installation program lets you remotely connect and configure multiple cameras simultaneously using a single interface and from one location. The same interface is also used to pair up a fixed camera with a PTZ camera for close-up views of detected objects. The program supports automatic calibration of the analytics on the cameras to simplify setup. It also lets you configure each camera’s detection scenario and response to alarm events. You can then integrate the events with any video management software that supports event handling and video streaming from Axis cameras. Support and upgrades are included in the AXIS Perimeter Defender software license.
For automatic close-ups of detected objects
AXIS Perimeter Defender PTZ Autotracking helps you get the details on intruders by enabling a PTZ camera to automatically zoom-in on and follow alarm objects. It’s available as an optional add-on application for use with AXIS Perimeter Defender analytics. When it’s installed on a PTZ camera, the application allows a fixed thermal or fixed visual camera running AXIS Perimeter Defender analytics to automatically steer the PTZ camera for close-up views of alarm objects in the fixed camera’s detection zone.
When a fixed camera is paired up with a PTZ camera, the fixed camera sends the location data of the detected alarm objects to the PTZ camera and thereby controls the direction and zoom level of the PTZ camera. The PTZ camera automatically adjusts the zoom level to keep in view all alarm objects, including new ones that appear in the fixed camera’s detection zone.
With a PTZ and fixed camera pairing, you get the zoomed-in details you need without compromising detection coverage since the fixed camera maintains vigilance over its field of view. And there's no need to manually control the PTZ camera. A camera operator, however, can take manual control of the PTZ camera at any time; for instance, after the PTZ autotracking stops when objects move out of the fixed camera’s detection zone. The autotracking functionality works only on specific Axis PTZ cameras (see list) and can only be used to pair up one fixed camera with one PTZ camera. Proper placement and mounting of the PTZ camera, as well as good calibration are key to the autotracking function.
For intrusion detection
AXIS Fence Guard allows you to set up virtual fences in a camera's field of view to protect an area from intrusion. The application automatically triggers an alarm when it detects a moving object, such as a person or vehicle, crossing a user-defined virtual line. It is ideal for after-hours monitoring of office buildings, retail stores, industrial properties and vehicle depots in non-critical applications.
More effective. More efficient. AXIS Fence Guard integrates with a camera’s event management functions. This means you can decide how you want the system to automatically respond to intruders. Having the camera send live video and email alerts to security staff allows a guard to focus on potential problems and take preventive action. Setting the camera to send and record video only on alarm also makes reviewing and searching for incidents easier, and reduces bandwidth and storage requirements. You can also program the camera to activate a loudspeaker or turn on lights to scare off intruders.
Fewer false alarms AXIS Fence Guard uses intelligent algorithms to cut back on costly false alarms. It analyzes movement and ignores ordinary background motion. It further supports false alarm filters that can disregard motion caused by short-lived objects such as headlights, and small objects like animals. The small object filter can be further refined using perspective configuration. This function allows you to configure the application to associate an object’s image size at different distances from the camera, with the actual size of that object. In this way, AXIS Fence Guard is able to alert security staff to the presence of a suspicious truck further away, while ignoring a harmless animal that is at close range.
For detecting loiterers
AXIS Loitering Guard tracks moving objects such as people and vehicles, and triggers an alarm if they have been in a predefined area for too long. The video-based application, which runs on a network camera, can help prevent crime such as vandalism and break-ins. The application is ideal for low-traffic areas and after business hours on semi-public properties such as office parking lots and schoolyards, as well as near fences. It relies on time-based triggers, so you get far fewer unwarranted alarms than with other, more conventional applications.

Setting the camera to send and record video only on alarm also makes reviewing and searching for incidents easier, and reduces bandwidth and storage requirements. You can also program the camera to activate a loudspeaker or turn on lights to scare off intruders.
Easy configuration. Extra flexibility.
AXIS Loitering Guard is easy to set up and configure. The application supports two loitering conditions and multiple profiles. You can set up, for instance, one profile that tracks the time of each individual object detected in a predefined area, and another profile that tracks the time when there is any presence of moving objects in an area. You can use different profiles simultaneously or at different times. This allows you to configure different responses to different trigger settings, or apply different trigger settings for different times of day.
The user interface provides real-time visual confirmation, supporting features such as progress bars for displaying accumulated loitering time, and bounding boxes that turn from green to red when an alarm is triggered using the “individual” loitering condition. The visual confirmation makes it possible to ensure that objects are correctly detected.
Smart motion detection
AXIS Motion Guard is a video motion detection application that detects and triggers an alarm whenever an object, such as a person or vehicle, moves within predefined areas in a camera’s field of view. It is ideal for low-traffic areas such as after-hours monitoring of office buildings, retail stores, industrial properties, vehicle depots and other unattended areas in non-critical applications.
Fewer false alarms AXIS Motion Guard uses intelligent algorithms to cut back on costly false alarms. It analyzes movement and ignores ordinary background motion. It further supports false alarm filters that can disregard motion caused by short-lived objects such as headlights, swaying foliage and small moving objects such as animals. The small object filter can be further refined using perspective configuration. This function allows you to configure the application to associate an object’s image size at different distances from the camera, with the actual size of that object. In this way, AXIS Motion Guard is able to alert security staff to the presence of a suspicious truck further away, while ignoring a harmless animal that is at close range.
On a number of Axis video products, AXIS Motion Guard supports alarm overlays that help you easily determine the objects that are triggering the alarms. Taking the form of red bounding boxes around alarm-triggering objects, the overlays can be used on one selected video resolution and are permanently burnt in into any live or recorded video using that resolution.
Automatic object tracking for pan, tilt, zoom cameras
AXIS Radar Autotracking for PTZ is designed to automatically control the direction and zoom-level of one or many pan, tilt, zoom cameras for optimized camera views. The application uses motion data from Axis network radar detectors to find objects of interest on the site. Compatible with AXIS Q60, AXIS Q61, AXIS Q86, and AXIS Q87 Network Cameras, AXIS Radar Autotracking for PTZ provides automatic, visual confirmation of detected objects even for objects out of the cameras current view. AXIS Radar Autotracking for PTZ hence minimizes the need for manual PTZ control of the cameras, such as joystick control.
Smart and easy configuration
AXIS Radar Autotracking for PTZ adds functionality to AXIS D2050-VE Network Radar Detector and allows for quick and easy calibration of reference map as well as placement of PTZ cameras. The intuitive interface enables grouping of multiple cameras to one Axis network radar detector making it possible for the cameras to cooperate. AXIS Radar Autotracking for PTZ is a Windows service, typically installed on your VMS server.
Motion detection and recording
AXIS Video Motion Detection 4 is a free video analytics application that is included on most* Axis network cameras and encoders. It adds intelligence to your video surveillance solution by sending alerts when it detects motion from moving objects, such as persons and vehicles, within predefined areas. The application also reduces storage and bandwidth as cameras only record when there is movement. AXIS Video Motion Detection 4 works in varying lighting conditions, whether indoors or outdoors. It is especially suitable for low-traffic areas such as office corridors, parking lots and unattended shop areas, and for after-hours surveillance.
Detect movement in multiple areas
AXIS Video Motion Detection 4 triggers on moving objects, including people and vehicles, in predefined areas of your choice. You can set it up to trigger alarms when movement is detected in multiple predefined “include” areas.
AXIS Video Motion Detection 4 supports multiple profiles for creating multiple configurations; for instance, one configuration for daytime and one for nighttime, or configurations with different “include” areas. Each profile triggers its own alarms and has its own settings.
Easy, cost-effective analytics for vehicle access
AXIS License Plate Verifier makes it easy and cost-effective to have an automated vehicle access system in areas such as parking lots. Just install the analytics application on a compatible Axis camera, set up the camera and connect the camera’s I/O port to a vehicle barrier’s relay, enter a list of license plates and the action rule in the analytics application—and you’re good to go. The application also has built-in support for AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller, so you can add a controller if you require greater access control functionalities. For more complex requirements, the application’s open API (application programming interface) enables integration with third-party software.

See list of compatible cameras and AXIS P1445-LE-3 License Plate Verifier Kit for a package deal. AXIS License Plate Verifier simplifies system installation since it enables a self-contained solution. All the processing and storage can take place in the camera, so there’s no need for a central server or integration with a surveillance system.
The application detects, in less than a second, the license plate captured by the camera and verifies it against a list of authorized or unauthorized number plates stored in the camera. If you choose to add an AXIS A1001 controller, the application can send the license plate as a credential for validation by AXIS A1001. You can control the vehicle barrier in several ways: by connecting the camera’s I/O port to the barrier’s relay, by using an Axis I/O relay module or through an AXIS A1001. AXIS License Plate Verifier has built-in support for an AXIS A91 Network I/O Relay Module, which simplifies connection to a barrier in new installations.
AXIS License Plate Verifier also supports event log entries that include thumbnail images of license plates for problem-free follow-up. The application integrates with the camera’s event management system, so you can configure the camera to send an email notification, record video to the camera’s SD card, and stream video if a blacklisted number plate is detected, for instance.
The affordably priced AXIS License Plate Verifier enables a reliable system that can replace manned guard booths. And the fact that it’s embedded in the camera eliminates the need for costly servers. AXIS License Plate Verifier offers a flexible solution that can meet your current needs, as well as support more complex requirements if your needs change. At its most basic, AXIS License Plate Verifier supports white and black lists of up to 1000 license plates each for determining whether a vehicle is allowed to enter a controlled area or not.
Effective privacy protection in video surveillance
When you want video surveillance but still need to protect people’s privacy, AXIS Live Privacy Shield makes it easy. It lets you monitor activities without collecting personal data. And it’s reliable and cost-effective. The analytics software runs directly on Axis cameras – no expensive servers are needed – and it’s the only edge-based solution that dependably masks moving people and objects in real time at up to full frame rate.
Surveillance with privacy protection AXIS Live Privacy Shield effectively addresses rules and regulations protecting privacy and personal data. It masks the identities of individuals in live and recorded video by comparing a live camera view with a set background scene and applying dynamic masking to areas of change – essentially moving people and objects. You can choose between color or mosaic (pixel) masking, and set the level of masking required. You can also decide how often the background should automatically update. Color masking provides the greatest privacy protection while enabling you to see movements. Mosaic masking shows moving objects in very low resolution and allows you to better distinguish forms by seeing an object’s colors.
By default, AXIS Live Privacy Shield applies dynamic masking to the camera’s entire field of view. But you can easily define areas with no masking if that’s what you need – for example, if you want to view moving objects on a conveyer belt, as in the setup image at right with a defined "exclude" area. You can also choose to configure the system to deliver a separate video stream without dynamic masking, so authorized viewers can access details for forensic purposes in case of an incident. The image, at left, illustrates AXIS Live Privacy Shield's ability to deliver simultaneous video streams with dynamic masking (A) and without (B). In the (A) video stream, an "exclude" area with no dynamic masking is applied in the cash register area. In areas where masking is permanently required, you can use the camera's static privacy masking feature in combination with AXIS Live Privacy Shield. As in the (A) and (B) video streams in the illustration, at left, you can apply, for instance, static privacy masking over the credit card terminal.
Reliable and cost-effective
AXIS Live Privacy Shield masks changes in real time. It can do it at up to full frame rate, depending on the camera resolution. It runs directly on selected Axis fixed cameras, so no expensive central-based servers are required. This also makes it easy to scale. AXIS Live Privacy Shield provides an affordably priced solution to an issue that could potentially be very costly if it is not addressed properly. AXIS Live Privacy Shield is designed for use in indoor areas with good, stable lighting. It is suitable for remote video monitoring or recording in areas where surveillance is otherwise problematic due to privacy rules and regulations. It’s ideal for processing, manufacturing and logistics applications when video surveillance is primarily used to monitor processes. Other potential applications are in retail, education and at government facilities where the environmental conditions for AXIS Live Privacy Shield are met.
